Staffordshire Day
The day and its story
Staffordshire Day is celebrated on 1 May. The date, linked to the founding of Josiah Wedgwood’s business in 1759, won a public vote organised by Enjoy Staffordshire in 2015.
The first celebration followed in 2016. The pottery connection places craft, industry and creativity at the heart of the occasion. Although the launch campaign referred to a thousand years since a written mention of Staffordshire, that is evidence of attestation, not an exact county foundation date.
Make it your celebration
Fly or display the county flag, explore a local collection, share a family story, or bring people together around the county’s food, language, music and history. Check individual organisers for event dates and access arrangements.
