Design and symbolism
A red dragon stands on gold. Unlike the council’s related banner, this public county flag does not give the dragon a council mace.
History and use
The dragon was already a longstanding county emblem when a public competition selected the design in 2013. Ed Woods had campaigned for its recognition. The modern registration records a shared traditional symbol rather than dating the county or the emblem’s entire history to the competition.
