Hampshire Day
The day and its story
Hampshire Day is 15 July, St Swithun’s Day. The county council recognised the occasion in 2019, and the first celebration included music, readings and the raising of the county flag.
The date connects the county’s modern celebration with a much older saint’s commemoration. The familiar tale that rain on St Swithun’s Day predicts forty wet days is folklore, not a weather forecast. The day’s wider purpose is to celebrate Hampshire’s heritage and people.
Make it your celebration
Fly or display the county flag, explore a local collection, share a family story, or bring people together around the county’s food, language, music and history. Check individual organisers for event dates and access arrangements.
