Buckinghamshire Day
The day and its story
Buckinghamshire Day is observed on 29 July, recalling the first Stoke Mandeville Games in 1948. The International Paralympic Committee confirms that date and distinguishes those games from the first Paralympic Games, held in Rome in 1960.
British County Flags and the Historic Counties Trust give 29 July. The Government’s 2019 guidance instead lists 28 July. We retain 29 July, with the disagreement visible, because it matches the anniversary and documented celebration.
Make it your celebration
Fly or display the county flag, explore a local collection, share a family story, or bring people together around the county’s food, language, music and history. Check individual organisers for event dates and access arrangements.
