Design and symbolism

A white swan with a golden crown and chain occupies a field divided into red and black. The bold background gives the long-established swan emblem considerable presence.

History and use

The swan and the red-and-black livery have historic heraldic associations with the dukes of Buckingham. The registered county flag uses this traditional symbolism for public expression of county identity, rather than displaying a council’s complete achievement of arms.
