Design and symbolism

A gold crown and two crossed arrows appear on blue. The emblem is associated with St Edmund, the East Anglian king.

History and use

The arrows refer to the tradition of Edmund’s martyrdom. His cult and its heraldic emblem later became widely associated with Suffolk. Local organisations supported registration in 2017. The medieval subject of the emblem is distinct from the date when this public flag entered the Registry.
