Design and symbolism

A large golden horseshoe is surrounded by golden acorns on green. The design is the banner of arms granted to the county council in 1950.

History and use

The horseshoe reflects a longstanding county emblem and the ceremonial horseshoe tradition associated with Oakham Castle. In November 2015 the council waived its rights to the design for public flag use. That release made a familiar civic banner available as a shared county flag.
