Design and symbolism

A golden wheatsheaf stands on green beside gold and blue bands divided by a wave. The wheatsheaf represents agriculture; the other colours evoke coastal sand and sea.

History and use

Aila Gibson’s winning competition design was unveiled on 28 October 2023. The Registry calls the flag Moray; RealCounties uses Morayshire as its principal county name, with Elginshire as an alternative. This profile concerns the geographic county, distinct from the council area using the name Moray.

The design is listed in the UK Flag Registry. A separate, securely established registration date is not given here; design dates, public unveilings and heraldic grants are different milestones.
