Design and symbolism

Three white seaxes with golden hilts are set on red beneath a golden Saxon crown. The crown distinguishes the design from the related Essex emblem.

History and use

The seaxes have a long association with the county. The crown was added to the county council’s arms in 1909, and the banner subsequently entered the Registry as a public county flag. The council’s later abolition did not abolish geographic Middlesex or its identity.

The design is listed in the UK Flag Registry. A separate, securely established registration date is not given here; design dates, public unveilings and heraldic grants are different milestones.
