Design and symbolism

A blue upright cross with cream edging is placed on green. It is called the Severn Cross.

History and use

Jeremy Bentall designed the winning entry in a competition organised by the High Sheriff. The colours bring together the county’s countryside, its pale local stone and its waters. The modern design provides a shared county emblem without reproducing a council’s arms.
