Design and symbolism
A green cross with white edging lies on pale blue, with a gold rose at the centre. Blue represents rivers and reservoirs; green evokes the landscape.
History and use
Martin Enright’s design was chosen through a BBC Radio Derby competition. The rose connects the flag with a familiar county emblem. Gold distinguishes it from the red and white roses associated with other counties and, in the Registry’s explanation, celebrates Derbyshire’s people.
