Design and symbolism

Three white grass-of-Parnassus flowers occupy a green upper field. Below them, alternating blue and white waves fill the lower part of the flag.

History and use

The flowers and green recall the county’s uplands and fertile landscape; the waves evoke its water and coast. The flag adapts the former county council’s 1950 arms, with more recognisable botanical flowers. The date of those arms is distinct from the flag’s later registration.
