Design and symbolism

Three golden wheatsheaves and a sword are set on blue. The sheaves form a triangle around the upright sword.

History and use

The wheatsheaves have represented the earldom of Chester since the medieval period. The sword recalls the county’s palatine associations. The public county flag draws on the banner of arms granted to the former county council in 1938, with support for registration from county sporting and heritage organisations.
