Design and symbolism

Orange and blue bands frame a white bridge and a stylised sun. The colours and shapes bring together the county’s coast, rivers, bridges, agriculture, whisky and sunsets.

History and use

Ellie Stewart’s winning competition design was unveiled on 28 October 2023. The bridge is especially distinctive: an everyday feature of the landscape becomes a clear emblem that can be recognised at a distance.

The design is listed in the UK Flag Registry. A separate, securely established registration date is not given here; design dates, public unveilings and heraldic grants are different milestones.
