Design and symbolism
A white castle and a divided crown stand across gold and purple vertical panels. Gold evokes barley and whisky; purple represents heather-covered hills. The castle celebrates the county’s architectural heritage, while the crown adds its royal associations.
History and use
The design emerged from a schools competition and combines contributions from five primary-school pupils. It was unveiled on 22 April 2023. Its new design expresses a much older county identity.
The design is listed in the UK Flag Registry. A separate, securely established registration date is not given here; design dates, public unveilings and heraldic grants are different milestones.
