Shetland Day
The day and its story
Shetland Day is listed on 21 June by both British County Flags and the Historic Counties Trust. The sources connect the observance with midsummer and recognition of the Shetland flag.
The date is treated as a fixed annual observance, rather than a calculation of the solstice. Accounts of the flag’s design, approval and later recognition refer to different stages; our separate flag profile explains its history without treating flag recognition as the creation of the county.
Make it your celebration
Fly or display the county flag, explore a local collection, share a family story, or bring people together around the county’s food, language, music and history. Check individual organisers for event dates and access arrangements.
